"Yangon has become more dirty and more messy in recent years"
a Burmese collegue mentioned it to me after returning from the trip to Yangon. The reason was quite simple. The capital city of the country was shifted from Yangon to Naypyidaw in 2006. Ever since then, the government has been investing heavily in Naypyidaw, leaving no budget to maintenance Yangon which is still the most populated city in the country.
I did not know that in 2010, Myanmar had announced a new design for their national flag. This newly designed flag where to be seen here and there around in the city, looking a bit like the flag of Ghana but with a white star. Not hard to imagine the confusion among the people in a country going through such rapid changes.
Anyway, the food stalls on the streets were still there and Bollywood movies still seemed to be the core of entertainment, good thing that the culture was left untouched.
